Strengthening Democracy
Support long-overdue reforms to insure (a) equal access to the
ballot, the media, and the public for all qualified candidates,
(b) the elimination of PAC and soft money funding of campaigns,
and (c) a shift towards public sponsorship of campaigns in order
to reduce the undue influence of special- interest groups on
election outcomes.
In 1996, all qualified presidential candidates were not given
full access to the public as Democrats and Republicans were. A
panel of Democrats and Republicans decided that the public would
not be interested in hearing from any presidential candidates
except for those who could win. Should not our leadership
support the very foundation of our country --- Democracy??
I support the opportunity for the public to make their own
choice about their presidential candidate and that they would be
interested to hear from all qualified presidential candidates so
that they could make their informed choice.
