Economy and Unemployment
A healthy economy is key to America's domestic strength and
international leadership. Outsourcing American jobs has
had a major impact on our now weakened economy. According
to the American Manufacturing Trade Action Coalition (AMTAC),
more than 2.8 million manufacturing jobs have been lost in the
past three years. Leaders say that current U.S. trade
policy is encouraging a relentless outsourcing of U.S. jobs and
U.S. wealth.
In Washington, I will take action to submit a
bill supporting policy that safeguards, strengthens, and
preserves our U.S. manufacturing jobs. I will support a
"fair trade" policy that will allow America to begin to rebuild
her manufacturing jobs.
Outsourcing has caused a lot of job losses in
American other than the textile industry and the scale has not
been balanced with new jobs.
According to the Associated Press, the
Greenville News, Sept. 15th issue, there were 403,300 technical
jobs lost between March 2001 and this past April 2004.
There should be more of a balance between
outsourcing, job losses, job training and the creation of new
jobs. I know myself that I have yet to see how outsourcing
has helped American and those of us who have worked so hard to
make it what we are today.
